‘Happy Independence Day, India!’: Google honours cultural traditions with unique doodle
To commemorate India's 75th Independence Day, Google on Sunday displayed a doodle, which depicts the diverse cultural traditions in the country. The doodle artwork depicts the diverse forms of our dance - Bharatanatyam, the oldest Indian dance form that has its origins in the southern state of Tamil Nadu dating back 3000 years.
From the classical tradition of Bihu and Bhangra to the Chhau dance and masked reenactments of the Indian epics known as Kathakali.
Kolkata's Sayan Mukherjee made a doodle
The artwork has been created by Kolkata-based artist Sayan Mukherjee. Sayan Mukherjee told in a special conversation with the media that India is such a huge country with such a diverse population, but there is only one thing that holds us all together.
Our unity in diversity. I have tried to show this in Doodon. Google issued a statement Google said in a statement that on the midnight of this day in 1947, India's decades-long movement for independence ended as the nation became a sovereign republic. Today's doodle, created by Kolkata-based artist Sayan Mukherjee, celebrates India's Independence Day and its cultural festivities.
Last year, the Google Doodle for India's Independence Day featured several iconic Indian folk instruments including tutari, shehnai, dhol, veena, sarangi and bansuri. It also reflects the essence of various Indian art forms. It was painted by Mumbai-based artist Sachin Ghanekar.
