Nargis Mohiudin, 28 year old enthusiastic women from interior village of Badgam in Kashmir dreamt of having her own business. Now her JK Unique tours and travels is located right in the middle of the market place in Panzan and Chadora, Which is 17 kilometres away from Srinagar. “I got to know about the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) somehow and went there without informing my family. There I took two weeks training and during the training I realized what I had been aiming to become- a businesswoman” said Nargis.

When she expressed her thought to her family, relatives and neighbours they were not ok with it. They told her to give up all this ideas and look out for a government job.But her father supported her. Nargis village though educated girls but were against of them doing business. But she convinced her parents and followed her dreams.

Her village is filled with herd of tourists during summer. This gave her an Idea of travel agency. “I was told by one and all that running a travel agency is not a women’s job, it is only men’s domain but I wanted to do it,” said Nargis.

She now efficiently deals with tourists, plans a itinerary for them and provides them assistance in booking accommodation. She plans to expand it soon. “I have applied for registration at the Tourism Department and a website too is in offing and I also have tie-ups with various hotels around,” said Nargis.

She is doing all her best to prove that a woman can run such a business to her narrow or may be unknown village minds.
